This is a region blessed by plentiful sunshine, cool afternoon breezes, and fertile soils. One of the oldest agriculture and grape growing regions of California, this area's reputation for producing grapes with full, rich flavors has grown with each vintage year. What started in Lodi mostly with the region's ability to produce Zinfandel wines of unbelievable depth of flavor and complexity has moved into a large range of wine varietals and styles including Petite Sirah, Barbera, Pinot Grigio and Cabernet Sauvignon, to name just a few. Clarksburg, the closest AVA to the bay's cooling breezes, is probably best known for its Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Petite Sirah and Tempranillo. These robust wine regions continue to grow as wine tourist desitination as well. Lodi in particular offers a number of great wine and food events throughout the year to highlight their wonderful wine and food culture.
